Contrary to the belief of some, the Sowerby Bridge Rushcart is created anew each year.

Preparing and thatching the cart ready for the festival takes about a week and a half (weather dependant) and involves at team of around 15 people. The style in which the cart is thatched and decorated has changed steadily over the last few decades and is a continuously developing process.
